OcuPlan was set up to help patients with a diagnosed long-term eye disease. We typically help patients who have been previously diagnosed by a consultant ophthalmologist and now require regular monitoring.

Interestingly, over the past few weeks, many of our practices have begun to refer their patients to OcuPlan as a first referral to avoid delays in their patients being seen. OcuPlan is able to help by enabling patients to see a consultant ophthalmologist typically within two weeks.

From speaking to our practices, they use OcuPlan as a routine first referral when they have a patient who would benefit from being seen quickly and at the diagnosis stage. Due to the uplift in referrals and the demand we are now accepting routine first referrals throughout our whole network.

If you have a new routine referral for a patient with glaucoma, ocular hypertension, Dry AMD or diabetic retinopathy, please do let them know about the alternate affordable patient choice of OcuPlan.

We will even top up your first OcuPlan fees to £100 for every patient that joins OcuPlan until the end of April 2023.

Not all patients will choose OcuPlan, so for that reason, we would recommend that you still refer them through the NHS channels. However, your patients will appreciate you going the extra mile to inform them on their choices. With your help, we can minimise patient anxiety and avoidable sight loss.

We’ve made it quick and easy for you, all we need is a few details on the patient, then we’ll talk to them to explain how OcuPlan works and how we may be able to help them. When they sign up, we’ll top up your first set of fees to £100.

What’s more, if you have already done the full threshold visual field and OCT scans, there would be no need for a repeat appointment. If they join OcuPlan within a month, you just need to upload the scans as soon as we let you know they’ve joined.
